             Bio & Resume

            Picture
Lori Anne Boocks earned a BFA from Old Dominion University in 1992. In her paintings, text serves as both subject matter and the basis for mark-making. Texture for each piece comes from her hands, brushwork, and a subtractive process where layers of washes are added to the surface, then partially removed.  Her influences include Cy Twombly, Anselm Kiefer, Nancy Spero, and Chinese calligraphy. Her work is included in private collections in California, Georgia, and the Metro DC area. She lives in Germantown, Maryland and is represented by Studio Gallery in Washington DC and Adah Rose Gallery in Kensington, MD.
